PG&E is reporting a widespread outage affecting thousands of customers in Berkeley and many City buildings, including the Finance Customer Service Center and the Permit Service Center. Call respective City services for further details, or check the PG&E outage page. Power is expected to return by 12:45pm. Traffic lights that are not working should be treated as a four-way stop sign.

Welcome to the Office of Vital Statistics at the City of Berkeley, CA. We are part of the Health, Housing & Community Services Department.

Effective May 1st, 2019 Berkeley Vital Records will only issues certificates for the first 2 years after a birth or death. If it has been more than 2 years since the birth or death, the certificate can be obtained by contacting the Alameda County Recorder's Office, (510) 272-6362. The City of Berkeley Vital Records only maintains documentation of births and deaths that occurred within Berkeley City limits, including out of hospital births, commonly called “home births”. If a birth or death occurred outside of Berkeley, contact the county, state, or country in which the event occurred to request the record. The City of Berkeley does not issue marriage certificates. Contact the Alameda County Recorder at (510) 272-6363 regarding marriages in Berkeley.
