Adults 55 and older in Alameda County can share their perspective via a survey to help inform the services and programs offered to seniors across Berkeley and the county.
The survey asks about your needs for transportation, housing, healthcare, community, and more. Your responses help the City and County prioritize programs that meet the greatest needs of older adults in our community.
The Alameda County survey can be taken online or in person at one of our two senior centers. It is offered in numerous languages. Please share it with others and fill out the survey by December 31.

We’re looking to get broad input. The survey is available in multiple languages: English, Spanish, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Tagalog, Farsi, Khmer, Vietnamese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, and Amharic.
The survey will take about 15 minutes to complete. It will ask you about a variety of topics, including:
- Accessibility of parks and public buildings in Alameda County
- Your ability to get around, including by public transit or paratransit
- Housing and financial security
- Where you find information about senior services
- Whether your needs for socializing, care, healthcare, and nutrition are being met

Help create a more age-friendly community
Your responses to the survey will help set priorities for senior services offered in Berkeley and Alameda County. Where the survey responses show gaps—for example, in regard to transportation, housing, or food—you may see new or improved services designed to better meet your needs.
In the past, survey data helped us understand that transportation was a big need for seniors in Berkeley. In response, we improved our transportation services, which now help over 1,300 seniors and people with disabilities get around using taxi scrip and wheelchair vans.
Older adults are a fast-growing population: by 2030, 1 in 5 adults will be over 65. Hearing directly from older adults helps us meet the changing needs of this growing segment of our community. Data from the survey will feed into plans for senior services in both Alameda County and Berkeley: the Alameda Countywide Area Plan for Older Adults and the City of Berkeley’s Age-Friendly Berkeley Action Plan.
Learn, socialize, and get support at Berkeley Senior Centers
If you are 55 or older, you can already take advantage of the many services we offer.
Visit Berkeley's senior centers to connect with services and community. Learn Italian, tap dance, practice tai chi, or paint at a free or donation-based class. Take a field trip to a museum or sign up for a shopping trip to the grocery store. Connect with others over a nutritious hot meal.
Qualified seniors can also access free transportation, meals, groceries, or personalized case management. Alameda County also offers several services for older adults, including in-home supportive services.
Those who want to make a positive impact and build connections with the community can volunteer to assist seniors. You can choose from various volunteer opportunities at the Senior Centers or make home deliveries with Meals on Wheels.
And remember to help shape future services, too! Take the countywide older adults survey by December 31 – and share it with others 55 and older so we can better understand the needs of many.
