Request New Street Light
Residents and businesses in Berkeley can request that the City install a new street light. To report issues with an existing street light, fill out and submit a street light service request form.
Current residents in Berkeley can request that the City install a new street light.
Follow the steps below to request a new street light:
- Fill out an Application for a New Street Light
- Sketch a map showing the proposed location of the new street light, following the example on page 2 of the application. Please be sure to include the property addresses and owner names.
- Prepare a letter indicating support of the proposed light, signed by each of the neighbors indicated on the sketch map diagram, as well as other stakeholders in support. (optional, but highly recommended)
- Submit the completed form, diagram, and optional letter to publicworks@berkeleyca.gov
Public Works staff will review your application and perform a night-time site visit to determine the best solution to improve visibility at the requested location. Staff may recommend an alternative solution to a new streetlight, such as tree trimming or increasing wattage.
If your application is approved, staff will move forward with installing the new street light, notifying neighbors before work begins. If your application is not approved, you will receive a notification. You may appeal the decision to the Director of Public Works within 30 days.
