In the coming months, Berkeley Transportation staff will begin accepting permit applications and will select up to 3 operators. Docked Bike Share

Berkeley is part of a bike sharing system called Bay Wheels.  Bike share is a 24-hour, regional transportation network for short, one-way trips by bike. Berkeley has 37 bike share stations with over 400 bikes. Berkeley’s bikes and bike stations are part of a larger network that allows people to more easily connect to BART and AC Transit as well as other key destinations in Oakland and Emeryville. The bike share system also includes Emeryville, Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose. This bike sharing system is a partnership between the City of Berkeley, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and Lyft.

For more information, like how to sign up for bike share or learning who qualifies for reduced rate memberships (Bike Share for All), see the Bay Wheels website.

One-Way Vehicle Share

Vehicle share is a membership-based service that allows members to pick up a vehicle in one location and drop it off at a different location. Members find the location of available vehicles in real-time using an organization's mobile application or website. Vehicle rental fees are charged by the minute and include fuel, maintenance, insurance, and parking.

Vehicle share is a great way to get around the city without having to own a car. Studies show that shared vehicles get used more often than private cars and are a good use of curb space. Vehicle share helps people reduce car ownership and accordingly, reduce the demand for parking.
