City of Berkeley Police Department Online Crime Reporting System
Welcome to the City of Berkeley Police Department's Online CRIME Reporting System. If this is an EMERGENCY, please call 9-1-1, or (510) 981-5911 from your cell phone. If this this situation requires immediate police response, please call (510) 981-5900 instead of filing an online report.
The online reporting system should only be used to report incidents that do not require immediate police attention. This reporting system is not continuously monitored by police personnel. Using this system will allow you to file a police report at your convenience. You will be provided a temporary tracking number immediately and you will receive a free copy of the official report via email once the report has been reviewed and approved.
Any of the following would NOT be appropriate to report online:
- This is an EMERGENCY situation
- This incident occurred outside of the City of Berkeley
- You, or someone you've spoken to, knows who committed the crime
- or occurred on a freeway, state highway or University of California property
- There is potential evidence that can be collected or something was left behind by the suspect
If you answered NO to all of the above questions, you are ready to file your report online. If you answered YES to any of the above questions, please call (510) 981-5900 and press option 2 to make a report and sub-option 2 to speak with a dispatcher.
To report an incident which occurred on the University of California Campus or UC Property, call the University of California (Berkeley) Police Department (UCPD) at (510) 642-6760.
To report an incident that happened on a freeway or state highway, call California Highway Patrol (CHP) at (707) 551-4100.
Important: You cannot report any stolen vehicle license plate on this system as we need to enter the plate(s) into SVS (Stolen Vehicle System) computer database as soon as possible. Please call (510) 981-5900 for stolen, missing or lost vehicle plates.

Upon completion of the online reporting process:
Your report will be reviewed within two business days;
Upon approval, a permanent Berkeley Police Department report number and a PDF e-copy of your report will be emailed to you.

If further investigation of your case is needed, you may be contacted by police personnel for additional information.
Reports that are incomplete or do not meet the minimum reporting requirements as specified above will not be accepted.
Filing a false police report is a violation of California Penal Code Section 148.5, which prohibits the filing of a false report of a criminal offense.
