PG&E is reporting a widespread outage affecting thousands of customers in Berkeley and many City buildings, including the Finance Customer Service Center and the Permit Service Center. Call respective City services for further details, or check the PG&E outage page. Power is expected to return by 12:45pm. Traffic lights that are not working should be treated as a four-way stop sign.

COVID-19 Risk Reduction Order
November 17, 2020 | Effective November 18, 2020

This Order defines the current COVID-19 restrictions on activities and gatherings in the City of Berkeley.

The Order was updated on November 17, 2020 to restrict allowed activities in Berkeley to those permitted under the State's "purple" tier. Dining, gyms, movie theaters, and places of worship are no longer permitted indoors, but may continue to operate outside.

Isolation & Quarantine
July 15, 2020 | Active

These Orders, issued concurrently, require people who have been diagnosed with or who are likely to have COVID-19 to isolate themselves until at least 1 day has passed since recovery and at least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared. The Orders also require people to quarantine themselves if they have been exposed through close contact with someone who has COVID-19, including household contacts, intimate partners, and caregivers.

Mandatory face coverings

Requires everyone to visibly carry face coverings when outside their home, and wear it over their nose and mouth when within 30 feet of others.

Note: Although Berkeley's Order only mandates face coverings for ages 12 and over, the State of California's face covering rules require masks for everyone 2 years and older. When state and local restrictions differ, the stricter of the two rules applies.
