City Council
A citywide Mayor and eight City Councilmembers from geographic districts comprise the Berkeley City Council, which makes decisions on local laws and policies using input from the community. Please refer to the meeting schedule to find dates for upcoming Council meetings.
Berkeleyans citywide elect the Mayor. Residents in eight separate districts elect a representative to serve on the Berkeley City Council. This nine-member body makes decisions about local laws and policies for the city using input from the community.
You can provide input to the Council by contacting them or by commenting during Council meetings. The City Council meeting schedule includes both regular meetings as well as special meetings to consider specific topics. City Council meetings follow specific Rules of Procedure and Order.
The Mayor issues proclamations, the City Council receives off-agenda memos from the City Manager, and the City Council comments on state and national legislation.
