The City of Berkeley web site is undergoing scheduled maintenance starting on Friday night, September 13 and ending on Saturday afternoon, September 14. During this time, most web pages should be available, but some resources may become unavailable for short periods of time.

PG&E is reporting a widespread outage affecting thousands of customers in Berkeley and many City buildings, including the Finance Customer Service Center and the Permit Service Center. Call respective City services for further details, or check the PG&E outage page. Power is expected to return by 12:45pm. Traffic lights that are not working should be treated as a four-way stop sign.

Reduced Services During the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Shelter-at-Home Order

In response to the March 16th Order of the City of Berkeley Public Health Officer to shelter at home, the Rent Board office is closed to the public until at least April 7, 2020. Though we are not answering the phone at this time, we are regularly checking messages and we are still providing limited services via email and phone. If possible, please email your question to rent@cityofberkeley.info. If you do not have an email or this is an emergency, please leave a brief message and you will receive a response as soon as possible. In your message, please provide ALL of the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your property address
  • The best time to reach you
  • Briefly describe the reason for your call

To Those Filing a Petition: Under reduced services, new petitions will continue to be received, but processing times will be delayed. Hearings may be conducted using remote technology to the extent possible, and parties will be notified accordingly.
