CITY OF BERKELEY RENT STABILIZATION BOARD
Reduced Services During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Last updated: September 24, 2020
Housing Counselors are taking calls at
(510) 981-7368 (RENT) during these hours:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.
- Wednesday from 12:00 pm - 4:45 pm
If you call outside of counseling hours, please leave a message. If you do not reach a counselor directly during counseling hours, it’s because they are assisting other callers. Please leave a message. All messages should include:
- Your name
- Your property address
- A brief description of your issue
- If you’ve received a Notice to Pay Rent or Quit or other eviction notice (we will prioritize your call)
You can also email your question to
rent@cityofberkeley.info. Be sure to provide your address and unit number so we can give you the most accurate response.
All communications to our office will receive a response within 72 hours. We know this is a stressful time, and appreciate your patience and understanding as we respond to a high volume of inquiries.
Petitions & Mediations
We are accepting new
petitions and
mediation requests, which can be submitted by mail or
email. All meetings are conducted remotely, with parties attending by phone or video through an internet-enabled device. Counselors can help parties with related paperwork and preparation, but cannot provide legal advice. Our
Rent Board Petitions Infographic gives a short overview of the process.
