PG&E is reporting a widespread outage affecting thousands of customers in Berkeley and many City buildings, including the Finance Customer Service Center and the Permit Service Center. Traffic lights that are not working should be treated as a four-way stop sign.

The City of Berkeley Rent Stabilization Board adopted the following process on August 15, 2019, to select a replacement to complete the time remaining on the term of former Rent Board Commissioner Christina Murphy.

We welcome all qualified candidates to submit their application.

To apply for consideration, please submit the following, by email, to Lynn Wu (lwu@cityofberkeley.info) by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2019.*

All timely submissions will be reviewed by the Ad Hoc Committee to Fill the Board Vacancy and also forwarded to the full Board. Submissions are public documents. Candidates who submit a timely application will be invited to speak with members of the Ad Hoc Committee the last week of September or the first week of October.

*All candidates are invited to attend the October 17th Board Meeting. All candidates at the meeting will have an opportunity to present themselves for up to 3 minutes and answer questions, if any, from the current Board Members.

PLEASE NOTE:

The Board is a legislative body subject to the restrictions of the Brown Act which prohibits a number of communications outside of public meetings, including serial communications between the elected Rent Board Commissioners. As such, candidates are advised not to share information with any Commissioners that was relayed to them by any other Commissioner. Should candidates have any questions regarding this restriction, please contact Senior Staff Attorney Matt Brown at (510) 981-4905.

Please refrain from communicating with any elected Rent Board Commissioners after 5:00 p.m. on October 7, 2019 until the conclusion of the October 17, 2019 Board meeting. You are free to communicate with individual Board Members who are not on the Ad Hoc Committee prior to 5:00 p.m. on October 7, 2019, subject to the restrictions outlined in the preceding paragraph.
