PG&E is reporting a widespread outage affecting thousands of customers in Berkeley and many City buildings, including the Finance Customer Service Center and the Permit Service Center. Call respective City services for further details, or check the PG&E outage page. Power is expected to return by 12:45pm. Traffic lights that are not working should be treated as a four-way stop sign.

UP Maintenance Notice for Berkeley, CA

Starting on September 22 – September 26, 2020

What: Union Pacific crews will have the railroad crossing on Gilman St closed in order to make repairs to the tracks. A road closure with a detour route will be in place throughout the duration of the closure.

During maintenance activities, you will hear additional horn sounding from the trains. This is required by law during construction activities. The engineers are also required to use the horn at night and early morning if there is maintenance activity along the tracks. We hope to quickly move through the area and apologize for the additional sounding of the horns. You may also hear back up beepers that are on maintenance equipment and vehicles.

When: The road closure will begin September 22nd at 7 a.m. and will continue through September 26th at 4 p.m. We don’t anticipate any changes to the schedule but will update this notice if there are any substantial changes.

Road and rail crews will be working in the area Tuesday through Saturday between 5:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Where: Union Pacific Railroad crossing on Gilman St, between Second St & Fourth St.

Who: Union Pacific Railroad maintenance personnel and RoadSafe Traffic Systems personnel.
