Officers at Community PicnicYouth Services Detail

The Berkeley Police Department (BPD) is dedicated to promoting and ensuring the safety, education and welfare of all young people throughout our City. BPD is committed to programs that encourage youth to avoid drugs, gangs, maintain safety on the Internet, to stay in school and to contribute positively to the community.

Detectives of the Youth Services Detail (YSD) investigate crimes against youth/juveniles such as abuse and sexual assault. They support victims through the difficult processes, referring them to additional aid when needed. Detectives and the SRO mentor and work with young offenders--counseling, assisting or referring them special services as needed.

The Berkeley Police Department Youth Services Detail works collaboratively with the Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD) and the various programs sponsored by the schools in Berkeley.  The Youth Services Detail  is dedicated to helping parents, teachers, and the community to stop youth violence. YSD is constantly seeking new and innovative programs that will help parents and foster safety for our youth. The Youth Services Detail is part of the Investigations Division.  For more information, e-mail the Youth Services Detail or call (510) 981-5715.
