Engineering Permits
Apply for an engineering permit to install No Parking signs, or to perform any construction work that impacts City infrastructure, such as sidewalks, streets, and sewers.
Engineering permits are required for construction projects that impact City infrastructure (such as sidewalks, streets, and sewers) or protected environmental areas (such as creeks).
To apply for an engineering permit, make an appointment to visit the Permit Service Center. Most engineering permit applications will use the Engineering Permit Application form.
Some common types of engineering permits are listed below. For information about permits to install new utility facilities, please visit the Utility Permits page.
Temporary No Parking sign
Request a temporary No Parking sign to park a moving container, truck, or debris box. Complete an application form and submit to the Permit Service Center for review. If approved, you must post your No Parking signs at least 72 hours before the prohibition begins.
Concrete permits for sidewalk and driveways
Projects that involve work to the sidewalk, driveway approach, gutters, curbs, etc. must follow the concrete specifications. Projects must follow the pedestrian access requirements to ensure pedestrian safety.
Street and sidewalk use permits
Construction or demolition projects that need to store materials, equipment, or debris in the public right of way require a street/sidewalk use permit. Examples of when this might be needed include for deploying a crane, closing a lane of traffic, or installing a temporary debris bin. These projects typically require a traffic control plan. Ensure that crews follow best practices to prevent pollution run-off.
Sewer and storm drain permits
A sewer and storm drain permit is needed to install, relocate, repair, or replace of sewer laterals or storm drains in the public right-of-way. A private sewer lateral permit is needed to work on sewer laterals on private property.
