PG&E is reporting a widespread outage affecting thousands of customers in Berkeley and many City buildings, including the Finance Customer Service Center and the Permit Service Center. Call respective City services for further details, or check the PG&E outage page. Power is expected to return by 12:45pm. Traffic lights that are not working should be treated as a four-way stop sign.

Appointments are strongly encouraged for the following types of building permit application. 

  • New project submittals
  • Resubmittals of plans with responses to plan check comments can be uploaded directly to the Permit Service Center Online 
  • Revisions to plans for projects with issues building permits
  • Appointments are also accepted for Fire Department Permits and Construction Parking Permits
  •  Making an appointment will greatly reduce the amount of time spent applying a permit.

All documents and plans are required to be submitted electronically in PDF Format via USB flash-drive with the maximum attachment size of 100 MB and minimum 300 dpi.

Appointments are available Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. to submit permit applications with plans (new, re-submittals and revisions). 

Over-the-Counter and walk-in application submittals will be accepted as staff is available. 

PLEASE NOTE:  There are no over-the-counter plan checks after 2:30pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays       

All other PSC counter applications may be submitted from 9am to 3pm.  Please remember that appointments are served first.

When you come to the Permit Service Center, please inform the person at the Welcome Station that you have a scheduled appointment.
