PG&E is reporting a widespread outage affecting thousands of customers in Berkeley and many City buildings, including the Finance Customer Service Center and the Permit Service Center. Call respective City services for further details, or check the PG&E outage page. Power is expected to return by 12:45pm. Traffic lights that are not working should be treated as a four-way stop sign.

James Kenney Community Center

 The James Kenney Community Center features space that can be reserved and rented by community members, including: 



  • Basketball court and gym (can seat 500 people)    
  • Arts and crafts room suitable for 40 people  
  • Small conference room for groups of 15 to 20 persons    
  • Community room for gatherings of up to 100 people  
  • Weight room adequate for 20 people      
  • Kitchen with a commercial stove  
  • Outdoor picnic and recreational space  
  • Elevator  

James Kenney Park has two tennis courts, outdoor basketball courts, a softball field, and picnic areas.

James Kenney Afterschool | GRADES K-5

There is just the right balance of structure and fun in this exciting program. Youth participate in a wide variety of fun and challenging activities ranging from homework help (with UC Berkeley BUILD tutors) and environmental programs to art activities and sports and games. Each day offers something new and exciting! James Kenney Community Center is a fully-inclusive site and is the home of The City of Berkeley Therapeutic Recreation Program (intake is required for Therapeutic Recreation Program). Scholarship Information
Scholarships are available provided applicant meets eligibility and verification requirements. You must submit an application and documentation at the time of registration. Scholarship applications can be obtained at any of the Community Centers or at Recreation Administration, and on the website.   

Refund Policy
All requests for refunds must be directed to the Recreation and Youth Services Manager, 2701 Telegraph Ave, Berkeley, CA. 94705. The original receipt must be submitted with a written request for a refund. The request must state the reason for the refund, and the date, time and location of the program. The Recreation and Youth Services Manager will render a decision to either: 1) refund the fee; 2) pro rate the fee; or 3) deny the request.   

No refunds or credit will be granted without 7 days notice prior to start of class. The City will deduct 25% of the amount paid from the Refund to cover administrative expenses, or a minimum $10.00 service charge. A refund will be granted for an individual or family if a doctor’s certificate is provided along with the written request for the refund.
