The City of Berkeley is seeking talented, enthusiastic, motivated, and responsible individuals to facilitate fun and engaging youth programs. Positions can begin as early as mid-August 2021. Typical school-year hours range from 1:30pm-6:30pm, Monday-Friday. Some evening and weekend hours are available. Job duties and work schedules may vary depending on program assignment. Positions are part-time, hourly, temporary, intermittent, and require availability of 15-30 hours per week.

Tot Programs - Now Hiring AdIf you have excellent communication skills, love working with young children and want to further your growth in Early Childhood Development, come join our team. Energetic, creative, and dedicated staff work with a curriculum based on Scaffolding Early Learning, which incorporates theme-based play planning and mature play to foster self-regulation and literacy skills. 

Applicants must have at least 6 months of work experience in a preschool or childcare setting with children ages 2-5 years; Early Childhood Education units desired. Positions start at $19.33 per hour.

  • In the "Employment Record" portion of the City’s application, list all of your paid or volunteer experience as it applies to the job. Examples include: camp counselor positions, babysitting jobs, youth coaching experience, leadership camps, youth mentoring programs, etc. 
  • In the “Relevant licenses, certificates, or training” portion of the City’s application, list all relevant certificates that apply to the job. Examples include: First Aid and CPR, Lifeguard, WSI, etc.   
  • Attach all required certificates with your application. (Please refer under “job requirements” for required certificates for the position you are applying for with the City).   
  • Upon receipt, your application will be reviewed and you will be contacted by phone or email if you are selected for an interview.

Minimum age for employment is 16 years. Candidates under the age of 18 will require a work permit.   

Employment Requirements:

Candidates under serious consideration must provide proof of a recent negative T.B. test prior the beginning of the program or agree to get one as condition of employment. An original Social Security card is also required.   

Fingerprinting Requirement: 
California state law requires that all recreation employees and volunteers having direct contact, supervisory or disciplinary authority over minors be fingerprinted as a condition of employment. Candidates under serious consideration for hire will be referred for fingerprinting.
