Willard Park Update

Through the City RFP process, staff put out a bid to renovate the tot lot and failing park pathways, to update accessibility elements and other park amenity upgrades to Willard Park.  This project is funded by Measure WW (EBRPD Bond) and Parks tax Funds (Measure F).

During demolition of the playground, we uncovered unforeseen conditions in the tot lot.  The safety surfacing had areas that were not up to City standards. To fix this issue, staff returned to City Council to get spending authority for the Contractor to do this additional work. Council approval was authorized on July 14. The Contractor re-mobilized on August 2 to demo the additional surfacing, and will continue working until the project is completed.

Please be advised that based on the scope, amount and sequence of construction, as well as City standard practices for review and approval of interim milestones, the Contractor may not be on site for a full day.  Additionally, because of the many school site renovations that are being completed by the start of the school year, specialty subcontractors that perform play structure installation and paving are especially busy.  The Contractor will be prepping the site for equipment installation the week of September 11th, followed by safety surfacing the week of September 18th.  The project is currently moving forward and we do not anticipate further issues. We will be planning for a late September or early October re-opening. Thank you for your patience.
