Celebrate the Fourth of July at the Berkeley Waterfront, where the City co-sponsors a popular, free, daylong celebration that begins at noon and ends with spectacular fireworks over the San Francisco Bay at 9:35pm.

This event is very popular. Please plan ahead. For event information, please call 510 548-5335 or visit the website at:

Walk, bike or bus

The best way to arrive is by walking or riding a bike over the Berkeley bicycle overpass or by bus. The AC Transit #51B will run from the Downtown Berkeley BART station to the Marina until 6pm. To leave on AC Transit after the fireworks, walk out over the freeway overpass to University and 6th St.

New this year, vehicle access to the event will be monitored at a pinch point on University Avenue, between Frontage Road and Marina Boulevard, between 8am and approximately 7pm. This will allow vehicles to arrive to the event later than years past and will also ease congestion. Please note, public parking before 8am on July 4th is not authorized.

Like in years past, all vehicles entering the Waterfront will be required to pay cash: $20 cash per vehicle, or $50 cash for large vehicles over 17 feet. Credit cards and checks will not be accepted. Please come with cash in hand to ensure a smooth entrance, and reduce traffic delays. The nearest ATM will be at the Seabreeze Market, open until 6pm.

Vehicles with boats on boat trailers will be allowed to access the Berkeley Marina Launch ramp and pay the required $16/day to launch/park.

Doubletree Hotel guests will be allowed to park in the Doubletree Lot, and pay the Doubletree’s designated rates (apx. $30/day).

If you arrive by car, take note of road and off-ramp closures: the southbound I-80 off-ramps at University Avenue and Gilman Street, and the northbound I-80 off-ramp at University will be closed from 7pm (or earlier) to midnight.  University Avenue west of 6th street will be closed to ALL vehicles from approximately 7pm to 11pm. Cars parked at the Waterfront may not be able to exit by car between 7pm and 11pm.

Rideshare drop-off and pick-up

For commercial rideshare operators/customers, such as Uber and Lyft, there will be a single pick up and drop off location at the Doubletree Hotel on Marina Boulevard from 8am to 6pm. Rideshare vehicles will enter the event on University, turn right on Marina Boulevard, drop their customers at the Doubletree Hotel, and immediately exit. Event patrons can walk along the Marina’s perimeter pathway to access the event. Rideshare operators may not drop customers at any other location unless an ADA placard is presented. The ride share and parking will be closely monitored, and any vehicles parking at the event without a valid parking pass may be ticketed.

After 6pm, rideshare drop-off and pick-up will not be available in the Marina. Rideshare pick-up and drop-off will move to the area near Spengers, 1919 Fourth St.

Plan ahead and note event rules

Picnic areas at all Marina parks are first come first serve, and there are only three designated barbecue sites at Shorebird Park.

Alcohol, personal fireworks, and personal barbecues are prohibited.

The Berkeley Municipal Fishing Pier is currently closed to the public.

Come early, stay, and enjoy the festivities!
