PG&E is reporting a widespread outage affecting thousands of customers in Berkeley and many City buildings, including the Finance Customer Service Center and the Permit Service Center. The Health Education Program at Berkeley High School Health Center and Berkeley Technology Academy is designed to provide information to students on a variety of health topics supporting adolescent health.  Health educators strive to provide students with the most comprehensive services available and make appropriate referrals both in-house and in the community.

Health Education Program

Health Educators provide information on a variety of topics including: nutrition education; alcohol and drug information; STI/HIV education, prevention and testing; birth control methods and pregnancy prevention, and a variety of other health topics supporting adolescent health and well-being.  They perform a complete psycho-social assessment on students in order to see the student as a whole person in the context of their daily life.  Health Educators strive to provide students with the most comprehensive services available and make  appropriate referrals both in-house and in the community.

In addition, the Health Education program engages in outreach activities including campus fliering and providing classroom presentations.  They plan a yearly World AIDS Day commemoration on the Berkeley High School campus, and have been involved in an annual Health and Wellness Fair; Club Day; Back-to-School Night; freshman information nights; and other large-scale outreach events.

The Health Education Team

The BHSHC Health Education Team is made up of interns selected from the AmeriCorps community service organization; City of Berkeley staff; and paid contractors.  The health educators historically have graduated from college with a degree or interest in public health, social welfare, biology, sociology, or other related field.  They are committed to providing superior services to adolescents in the Berkeley community, and have an interest in continuing a career in medicine, public health, or social work.
