PG&E is reporting a widespread outage affecting thousands of customers in Berkeley and many City buildings, including the Finance Customer Service Center and the Permit Service Center. Call respective City services for further details, or check the PG&E outage page. Power is expected to return by 12:45pm. Traffic lights that are not working should be treated as a four-way stop sign.

Written Exam:

Applicants who meet all the announced requirements and submit a complete application packet by the application filing deadline of August 1, 2016, will be scheduled for the written exam (tentatively scheduled for August 20 and 24, 2016). The exam will consist of the following four sections: Recall and Comprehend Verbal and Visual Information, in which candidates are required to watch two (2) short videos and answer questions based on scenarios presented; Recall and Comprehend Technical Information from Written Materials; Solve Mathematical Problems; and Apply Mechanical Reasoning. Online written test study materials can be accessed on the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Website.

If you have taken the written test through the FCTC, your results will be accepted and you do not need to participate in the Berkeley written test.

NOTE: Do not sign up for the FCTC ALS examination; Berkeley Fire administers their own paramedic skills assessment.
