Fire Safety Presentations

Learn about fire safety from those who know the most about it – your Berkeley Fire Department!

Personnel from Berkeley Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Division are available to do a variety of free fire safety presentations. Here are the types of presentations we can do:

School age presentations:

Classrooms/scout groups/preschools - Fire personnel come into your classroom or meeting room and talk informally about fire safety for 30-60 minutes. Personnel will wear uniforms, and bring protective gear and air packs. This presentation may include a tour of a fire engine.

Station tour – See firefighters dressed up in their gear. Personnel will display the fire truck and ambulance and talk about the different equipment firefighters use.  Visitors can see where firefighters live while working a 24 hour shift. This tour lasts 30-60 minutes.

Community events – Block parties, street fairs. Fire personnel will staff a fire engine, truck or ambulance. This is your chance to meet some of your Berkeley firefighters and tour a fire engine.

Special neighborhood presentations – A fire inspector will give a presentation on an issue of particular interest (fire codes, vegetation management, etc.). These are usually made at neighborhood meetings. Occasionally a fire company will also attend.

School Program (K-5) – Specially trained fire personnel are available to make structured presentations at K-5 school assemblies. The goal is to demystify the fire department and make children comfortable around firefighters. Programs deal with such issues as what to do if your house is on fire, how to call 911, what to do if your clothes catch on fire, and what a smoke alarm is. Personnel will wear uniforms, bring protective gear and air packs, and show a video. The presentation lasts 30-60 minutes.

How to sign up:

These presentations can be requested by calling the Fire Safety Presentation Request Line  (981.5605). When you call the Request Line, please be ready to give the following information: your name, address, and phone number, the type of presentation you would like, a date (and alternate) and time for the presentation, how many will attend, and what the primary age group will be. All presentations must be requested at least 14 days in advance. Presentations cannot be granted between the times of 12pm - 1pm or 5pm - 6pm.

Berkeley Fire Department is committed to providing quality customer service. There are occasions when presentations must be rescheduled due to emergency call volume.
