Commercial & Multifamily Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations

The City of Berkeley supports efforts of local businesses to provide EV charging as an amenity for their employees, customers, and the public, as well as multi-family property owners interested in EV charging for their residents and visitors.

Installation of EV charging stations require electrical permits and additional review if the parking space layout in an existing parking lot or garage is being altered.  Installations must comply with current Building Codes, including the accessibility requirements for EV charging stations in the California Building Code.

Permit applications are processed at the Permit Service Center (PSC); call 510-981-7502 for an appointment.  All documentation should be brought to the PSC in an electronic format; please see the PSC's paperless policy for details.
