Kriss in Action Kriss Worthington has spent his entire public service career standing up for progressive values, and making sure those values are transformed into action.

First elected in 1996, Kriss is a 21-year veteran of the Berkeley City Council.  In that time, he has steadily built a reputation as one of the region's most prominent and effective progressive leaders, making real progress on the issues that matter to the people of the East Bay, including education, housing, transportation, the environment, diversity economic development, and safety.  Now serving his fourth term in office, Kriss also serves as the official City of Berkeley representative to the Alameda County Congestion Management Agency.  He also serves as the alternate to the Alameda County Waste Management Authority and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG).

Kriss is no stranger to overcoming huge challenges. He spent the first 11 years of his life as a foster child, moving between various foster homes, and later spent time on the streets as a homeless youth. These challenging early life experiences gave Kriss the compassion and determination he has today for those who are less fortunate – and he's spent his time as a legislator being a voice for those who are left out with no one to speak up for them.

Over his lifetime of activism, Kriss has served in dozens of organizations and boards, most recently as a board member for the National Organization for Women (NOW), the NAACP, Alameda County Transportation Commission, and formerly as the chair of the Northern Alameda County Group of the Sierra Club.  Kriss is also the founder of the annual Holocaust Remembrance Day in Berkeley, which is now in its fifteenth year.
