Berkeley, California (Friday, November 09, 2012) - To make our collection services more efficient, Berkeley is now using automated trucks on most collection routes. To allow the new equipment to operate efficiently, residents are being asked to place residential garbage, recycling and green waste carts in the gutter, with wheels against the curb. When that placement is not possible, or on street sweeping days, carts can be left on the parking strip.

Customers will soon receive a set-out guide in the mail that will notify them about the new service and cart location. To see pictures of the required placement (in the gutter, or in the gutter in front of the driveway) and alternatives view or download the full-color set-out guide here.

The Public Works Solid Waste Management Division has designed a residential cart set-out guide to assist customers with the proper set-out location of their carts for collection. Customers who are already exempt from set-out requirements can continue to use their established set-out location. Can Set Out

The guide is scheduled to be mailed starting November 9, 2012 to all City residential refuse customers  and will also be made available at City libraries and distributed to neighborhood and community associations.
