Crime Scene Unit / Investigation

The Crime Scene Supervisor oversees four (4) Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) who respond to a variety of crime scenes for the purpose of evidence documentation and collection. Team members support patrol officers of all ranks and all Detectives with searches for evidence but have the ultimate responsibility of management of evidence in major or complex crimes. The team covers the hours of 7:00 a.m to 2:00 a.m and are on call for significant crimes such as homicides, stranger sexual assaults,   shootings, stabbings, kidnappings, fatal collisions or other crimes as directed by the the Investigations or Operations Division personnel on the scene. A CSI accompanies the detective(s) and is present during autopsies in all Coroner's cases related to BPD Investigations.

Crime Scene Investigators' duties include logging, collecting and processing all evidence, categorizing fingerprints, writing reports documenting each case as well as preparing cases for court. Each attend a diversity of training including several levels of Crime Scene Investigation, Bloodstain Pattern Analysis, Latent Fingerprint Collection, Crime Scene / Forensic Photography and Videotaping, just to name a very few.
