2013 City of Berkeley Health Status Report - Berkeley is one of three California cities with its own Public Health division.  The Health Status Report fulfills one of the essential functions of public health:  monitoring the health of the community.  It includes information about successes, on-going efforts, and future directions of Public Health work in Berkeley.   The report begins with a description of Berkeley’s demographics, and follows the health of the community throughout the life course from pregnancy and birth through childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and death. The Public Health Division and the Health, Housing and Community Services (HHCS) Department recognize health inequities as a priority and the City is committed to addressing and eliminating health inequities. This can only be accomplished with the concerted attention and partnership of the community as a whole.  [more...]
