PG&E is reporting a widespread outage affecting thousands of customers in Berkeley and many City buildings, including the Finance Customer Service Center and the Permit Service Center. Call respective City services for further details, or check the PG&E outage page. Power is expected to return by 12:45pm. Traffic lights that are not working should be treated as a four-way stop sign.

Meals on Wheels -

Meals on Wheels is now delivering meals on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays:

  • Monday, a chilled meal is sent for that day, and a frozen meal for Tuesday
  • Wednesday, a chilled meal is sent for that day, and a frozen meal for Thursday
  • Friday, a chilled meal is sent for that day, and two frozen meals for the weekend
We have implemented no-contact deliveries due to COVID-19 and are taking other precautions to protect community health. If you need assistance bringing meals into your home, we request that you wear a face covering during the delivery.

Mercy Brown Bag Program -

Delivery of Mercy Brown Bag groceries is now available the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month, excluding City holidays. Current Berkeley participants can email seniors@cityofberkeley.info or call (510) 981-5170 or (510) 981-5190 by 12:00 pm the Monday prior to delivery day. Provide your Mercy Brown Bag card number, name, address, and phone number. Recipients must be present to receive the delivery. Pickups at Senior Centers have been suspended during COVID-19.

Senior Companion Caregiver and Injury Prevention Programs - The Division on Aging administers two services introduced in 2002 to broaden the City's outreach to its older citizens. One program, the Senior Companion Caregiver Program, acknowledges the growing trend of younger family members who often must take on the responsibilities of caring for older, ailing relatives and the difficulties that undertaking presents. The other program, The Senior Injury Prevention Program in conjunction with the Berkeley Fire Department, identifies elders who often live alone and have no one else to turn to when they become ill or injured. Tri-City Cafés -

Dine-in lunch program has been replaced by Cafe Delivery and Grab & Go Curbside Pickup programs due to COVID-19 facility closures. Preregistration is required for both programs. For more information, email seniors@cityofberkeley.info or call (510) 981-5190.

 

  • Cafe Delivery: Available to Berkeley Senior Center members who live in Berkeley. Must be present to accept delivery. Delivered Monday & Wednesday, 9:30-11:00am. Suggested donation of $15/week (age 60+), or $25/week (age 55-59). 
  • Grab & Go Curbside Pickup: Available to Berkeley residents 60 years of age or older. Pickups on Tuesdays, 11:30am-1:00pm. Suggested donation of $15/week.

Volunteer and Make a Difference! - The Aging Services Division provides many opportunities for volunteers to support seniors in our community. Each year, hundreds of volunteers support the activities and services provided at the North and South Berkeley Senior Centers as well as help to deliver thousands of meals for the Meals on Wheels program.
