General Information
 **King Pool will be closed for public swim Monday, 7/9/18 from 1PM-3PM for maintenance. We will resume regular hours at 3PM Monday, 7/9/18.

The City of Berkeley Aquatics Program operates two outdoor, heated swimming pools:

The City offers a wide variety of Aquatics Programs at each facility, including Lap Swim, Family Swim, Red Cross Learn to Swim classes, Coached Swim teams (Berkeley Aquatic Masters and the Berkeley Barracudas), Fitness Workouts, Independent Exercise Programs, Senior Disabled Quiet Swim, Senior Exercise Classes, and Private Lessons. These facilities can be reserved for private group rentals, and also host several annual special events, including our kid's Triathlon and Derby Days.  Shower policy (All Programs): In order to conserve water, please limit your shower to 5 minutes or less. Program Registration:Many programs are available for online registration, which can be found here: Online Registration. Some programs are drop-in only, or require in-person registration. For additional information, you can see all of the City of Berkeley Aquatic Program offerings for each season by viewing the City of Berkeley Activity Guide.  You can also contact one of our Swim Centers or the Recreation Administration office, at (510) 981-5150 or recreation@cityofberkeley.info. For in-person cash registrations, we accept exact change or check payments only.  Credit cards are ONLY accepted at the Willard Recreation Customer Service Hub located at 2701 Telegraph Ave.

Scholarships
Scholarships are available provided applicant meets eligibility and verification requirements. You must submit an application and documentation at the time of registration. Scholarship applications can be obtained at any of the Community Centers or at Recreation Administration, and on the website.

Refund Policy
All requests for refunds must be directed to the Recreation & Youth Services Manager, Recreation Division, 2701 Telegraph Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94705. The original receipt must be submitted with a written request for a refund. The request must state the reason for the refund, and the date, time and location of the program. The Rec­reation and Youth Services Manager will render a decision to either: 1) refund the fee; 2) pro-rate the fee; 3) apply the fees to another session or program; or 4) deny the request.No refunds or credit will be granted without 7 days notice prior to start of class or date of reservation. The City will deduct 25% of the amount paid from the refund to cover administration expenses or will add a minimum $10.00 service charge.

While many programs are available for online registration, please note that at this time, our Aquatics Facilities can accept exact change payments only, and our Swim Centers are unable to make change. For cash payments, please pay exact admission fee.  Checks should be made payable to the City of Berkeley.  If checks do not have an address pre-printed on it, we cannot accept it.  At this time, we cannot accept debit or credit cards.  Thank you.  

Note: The City of Berkeley is not responsible for lost or stolen items at our Aquatic facilities.   Please bring a lock and put all valuables in one of our on deck lockers.

Summer 2018 Program Information (Alphabetical Order)

Aquatic Day Camp             Ages 10 - 17

Each one week day camp session introduces participants to competitive swimming, water polo, synchronized swimming and diving.  Participants will explore each sport through daily technique and practice sessions, and parents will be invited to a performance on the final day of each camp.  Camp is designed for swimmers with intermediate or advanced swimming skills. Family Swim                     All Ages

Time for families to swim together in the shallow section of the pool. Parent or guardian must supervise their children at all times. Children under 7 years and less than 42” in height must be accompanied in the pool by parent or guardian, who must remain within arm’s reach at all times. No more than 2 children who are under 7 years old or less than 42” in height, per adult.  No balls, flotation devices, snorkels, fins or masks that cover the nose allowed.  Locations:  King Pool and West Campus Pool

  • Pre-School Level 1:   Ages: 3-5  Introduction to Water Skills: Participants will experience floating and kicking with support; blowing bubbles and learn water safety skills.  No prior experience necessary.
  • Pre-School Level 2:   Ages: 3-5  Elementary Water Skills: Participants will experience floating, kicking and bobbing with support, and will learn water safety skills. 
  • Pre-School Level 3:  Ages: 3-5  Basic Aquatic Skills: Participants will experience locomotion and treading water independently and will learn water safety skills. 
  • Level 1:   Ages: 6 – 17  Introduction to Water Skills: Participants will learn floating and kicking with support, blowing bubbles and learn water safety skills.  No prior experience necessary.
  • Level 2:   Ages: 6 – 17  Fundamental Aquatic Skills:   Participants will learn independent locomotion skills on front and back, and development a foundation for swimming strokes. 
  • Level 3:   Ages: 6 – 17  Stroke Development: Participants will learn side-breathing for front crawl, develop further stroke skills and are introduced to deep water. 
  • Level 4:   Ages: 6 – 17   Stroke Improvement: Participants work to improve five swimming strokes and learn water safety skills, which includes watching CPR demonstrations. 
  • Level 5/6:  Ages: 6 – 17  Stroke Refinement/Advanced Skills: Refinement of all six strokes.  Practice turns and additional areas of special interest such as personal water safety, diving or fitness swimming.  

Group Lesson Policy:

All organizations, schools and private groups with 10 or more students must submit a Lesson Request Form to King or West Campus Pool between April 23rd and May 21, 2018. Aquatics Program Special Events

 May 12th:  Annual Kid’s Triathlon

This swim, bike and run event is held on a completely off-street course.  All participants receive a race t-shirt, a goody bag and a participation medal.  The fastest three boys and girls in each age group receive trophies. Call 981-5105 for more information. Entry deadline: May 4th.Online registration now open!

July 21st:    Derby Day        All Ages

Don’t miss our annual cardboard boat races and other fun activities.  Watch and cheer on your favorite boats, created by youth from local community centers and playground programs.  There will be fast, creative and highly decorated boats, sure to entertain!

Skate Park -

Skate Park Programs

The Berkeley Skate Park, located at Harrison Park, an 18,000 square foot park that contains a large oval bowl and, fun box and areas for beginners. This site will provide you with program, special event, and rental information. Use of the park is free. Helmets required. Pads are recommended. No bikes allowed. The Skate Park will be closed during clinics, events and rainy weather. All classes cancelled during rain. 

Park Hours: 8:30am - 9:30pm, 7 days a week.
