The City of Berkeley is committed to making walking in Berkeley safe, attractive, easy and convenient for people of all ages and abilities.

Berkeley has a very high percentage of residents who walk to work. Nearly 15% of Berkeley commuters walk to and from work, the 3rd highest rate in the Bay Area. In addition, many Berkeley residents walk for pleasure and for non-work related trips.

Berkeley is also a very safe place to bike and walk.  When indexed by its high rates of walking and cycling, Berkeley ranks as the safest city with a population over 60,000 in California for both walking and biking.
