PG&E is reporting a widespread outage affecting thousands of customers in Berkeley and many City buildings, including the Finance Customer Service Center and the Permit Service Center. Call respective City services for further details, or check the PG&E outage page. Power is expected to return by 12:45pm. Traffic lights that are not working should be treated as a four-way stop sign.

YouthWorks

Due to circumstances related to Covid-19 YouthWorks will not be opening up the new applications for the Summer 2021 employment session. The Summer 2021 employment session YouthWorks employees will be selected from a pool of candidates that had applied for previous sessions.

Applications for Winter 2021/22 are anticipated to open in October of 2021. Due to possible unforeseen events this date may be subject to change. Please check this website for updated information on this program.

Applications for the Extended program will remain open year-round (Extended program qualifications differ from Summer positions. The Extended program positions are not typically available to applicants under the age of 18.)

Until further notice all sessions: Winter, Summer, and the Extended programs will have limited participation due to restrictions related to COVID-19.

Employment Program for Berkeley Youth

Program Objectives for YouthWorks:
The main goals of the YouthWorks program is to provide a variety of employment opportunities that allow participants the opportunity to build their employability skills while still encouraging school completion and/or enrollment in postsecondary education and/or training.

Benefits of YouthWorks:

• Offer part-time-temporary jobs
• Expose youth to career options and opportunities
• Divert youth into positive activities
• Assist youth with inter-personal relationships on-the-job, at home and in the community
• Training and employment opportunities throughout various departments within the City of Berkeley
   as well as our nonprofit and BUSD partners

 
YouthWorks Programs:
YouthWorks employment consists of 2 seasonal sessions for youth who are
ages 14-18 and a year-round Extended program for ages18-25.
All applicants must be City of Berkeley residents.


Schedule for Summer session employment ages 14-18:
March-Application period will begin and end in March.
February-May-Selected applicants will be notified. YouthWorkers may be asked to do trainings, interviews, and job placement.
June-August-Employment at jobsites for YouthWorkers will start in June and end by August.
Schedule for Winter session employment ages 14-18:
October-Application period will begin and end in November.
November-January-Selected applicants will be notified. New YouthWorkers may be asked to do trainings, interviews, and job placement.
January-February-Employment at jobsites for YouthWorkers will start in January and end in February.


For Extended Program employment ages 18-25
Applications are open year-round for this age group. The start dates will vary upon job openings.
