SUSPECT CHARGED FOR SEPTEMBER SHOOTING IN AQUATIC PARK

Berkeley, California (Monday, November 22, 2021) - On September 9, 2021 at about 1:52 am, BPD received a call from a witness about a possible shooting in South Aquatic Park. Officers converged and conducted a canvass of the area. During their search officers located evidence of a shooting, however they were unable to locate any suspect or victim.

A short time later BPD received a call of a gunshot victim on the porch of a nearby house asking for help. Officers responded to the victim’s location, and they told officers they were confronted by the suspect as they walked through South Aquatic Park. An altercation ensued with the suspect striking the victim several times with a firearm and shooting in their direction as they ran away. The victim ran to a safer location and realized they had sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Berkeley Police Detective Bureau personnel conducted follow up investigation, and were able to identify a suspect.

On November 18, 2021, BPD Detectives, with assistance from the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force, conducted a search warrant of the suspect’s residence in Oakland. A search of the residence revealed several firearms, a silencer, as well as heroin and cocaine in amounts possessed for sale.
