TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED AFTER A TRIO OF AUGUST ROBBERIES

Berkeley, California (Tuesday, October 05, 2021) - In a period of thirty minutes on the late afternoon of August 10th, several people were robbed at gunpoint throughout the City.  In each of the robberies, the suspects targeted people who had just come from within a bank.

At 4:30 pm, an armed male suspect robbed a man in the area of College Avenue and Woolsey Street after the man walked out of a nearby Bank of America.

At 4:58 pm, an armed male suspect robbed a man and woman as they returned to their vehicle in the Wells Fargo bank parking lot in West Berkeley.

At 5 pm, an armed male suspect robbed a man as he returned to his vehicle in the Mechanics Bank parking lot in West Berkeley.

During the investigation, detectives reviewed security surveillance recordings from the robberies and were able to identify the suspect’s getaway vehicle.  With this information, detectives placed a law enforcement notice to other law enforcement agencies that the vehicle is associated with several armed robberies.

On August 11th, deputies from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s found the vehicle in the City of El Sobrante—driven by a woman and her two children.  Further investigation into the woman and the vehicle led investigators to the identity of the second suspect—her husband.

On September 2nd, detectives executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence.  Inside the residence, detectives found a stolen handgun with a high-capacity magazine.  At the scene, the woman (a 38-year-old El Sobrante woman) was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a crime and being an accessory to the crime after the fact.  The woman’s husband (a 27-year-old El Sobrante man) was arrested on suspicion of robbery, being a felon in possession of handgun, and other offenses.

On September 3rd, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged the male suspect with several counts of PC 211-Robbery as well as criminal enhancements for the use of a firearm.
