TWO MEN CHARGED AFTER A SHOOTING IN SOUTH BERKELEY

Berkeley, California (Friday, March 12, 2021) - On March 9th at 4:59 pm, officers responded to the intersection of California Street and Prince Street on a report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a 32-year-old Oakland man on the ground with a single gunshot wound as well as another man who others identified as the person who shot the 32-year-old.  The man responsible for the shooting (a 41-year-old Oakland man) immediately surrendered to officers.

The shooting occurred after the 41-year-old man intervened in a domestic dispute between the 32-year-old man and his girlfriend.  During that confrontation, both men armed themselves--culminating in gunfire.

As a result of this incident, the 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a loaded/concealed firearm.  The 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats.

The Berkeley Fire Department transported the 32-year-old man to a local hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

On March 11th, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged the 41-year-old man with misdemeanor PC 25850(a)—carrying a loaded firearm.  The 32-year-old man was charged with felony PC 245(a)(1)—assault with a deadly weapon.
