Tax credit and rebates make electric vehicles more affordable
A federal tax credit and State of California rebates make electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids more affordable to purchase or lease. For income qualified drivers, various programs help further reduce the costs of buying or leasing a new or used plug-in or hybrid car through grants, financing, and help with installing home charging stations.
Electric vehicles are key to meeting climate goals
Transportation is the largest source of greenhouse gases locally, statewide, and nationally. Reducing the carbon impact of vehicles primarily requires reducing car trips, which Berkeley supports through a variety of strategies, including improving access to transit with programs like bike share and one-way vehicle-share.
The City's Electric Mobility Roadmap identifies goals to create a fossil fuel-free transportation system that also supports walking, biking, and public transportation, and ensures equitable access to the benefits of clean transportation.
For those who have to drive, electric vehicles, with zero tailpipe emissions, help our climate and improve local air quality. Increasing electric vehicle use is a key strategy of Berkeley's Climate Action Plan, which seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050, and supports the City's Strategic Plan goal to "be a global leader in addressing climate change, advancing environmental justice, and protecting the environment."
Sign up for an Electric Cars 101 or 102 workshop to explore how electric cars can help you save money, improve your commute, clean the air, and fight climate change.
