SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR BURGLARY

Berkeley, California (Wednesday, May 06, 2020) - On May 4th at 11:18 am, an alert witness spotted a suspect entering a secured apartment building on the 1900 block of Delaware Street.  The suspect walked to the apartment’s mailboxes in the lobby and used a tool to open several mailboxes.  The witness then watched the suspect take the mail out of the mailboxes, stuff the mail in a bag and walk-off.

When officers arrived to the apartment building, they found the suspect inside the parking garage—carrying a bag full of stolen mail.

After reviewing security surveillance footage, officers discovered that the suspect broke into the building’s lockbox and used the master key to gain access to the building.

When officers searched the suspect, they found over a gram of methamphetamine as well as several burglary tools.  Inside the bag, officers found mail from three (3) different locations—stolen from sixty (60) different people.

The suspect (Alan Thrower, Male, 42 years old, Berkeley, CA) was arrested on suspicion of burglary, violation of probation, possession of narcotics as well as several theft/identity theft-related charges.

The Berkeley Police Department takes great pride in keeping our community safe.  We appreciate the public’s support and are pleased that we were able to bring justice to those who wish to do harm to our community.
