PG&E is reporting a widespread outage affecting thousands of customers in Berkeley and many City buildings, including the Finance Customer Service Center and the Permit Service Center. Call respective City services for further details, or check the PG&E outage page. Power is expected to return by 12:45pm. Traffic lights that are not working should be treated as a four-way stop sign.

SUSPECTS CONVICTED AFTER 62ND STREET SHOOTING

Berkeley, California (Wednesday, December 18, 2019) - After the May 1st shooting on the 1600 block of 62nd Street, investigators identified four suspects who participated in the shooting.  On May 15th, detectives arrested one of the suspects—Deandre Ivan Bess (Male, 23 years old, Oakland, CA) in Oakland, CA.  On May 23rd, members of the Berkeley Police Department arrested two other suspects in Oakland, CA—Justin Lofton (Male, 22 years old, Oakland, CA) and Isabella Saturn (Female, 21 years old, Oakland, CA).  The fourth suspect—Jamel Wilcox (Male, 20 years old, Oakland, CA) surrendered to police on June 3rd.

On May 28th, the Alameda County District Attorney’s charged three of the suspects with attempted murder and charged Deandre Bess with being an accessory to attempted murder.

As of today, the two suspects firing guns in this case have been convicted and sentenced.  The get-away driver in this case (Isabella Saturn) was convicted of aiding in a felony has since been released with felony probation.
