learn more about the work while taking part in fun activities

Berkeley, California (Wednesday, October 16, 2019) - What makes the City of Berkeley work is its people. Come out to Civic Center Park on Sunday October 20 to meet staff and elected officials who serve our community - and see some of the tools we use to get the job done.

We'll have trucks for kids (and adults) to examine - garbage, vector, backhoe, street sweeper and firefighting ladder trucks. Learn about our extensive recreation programs for all ages. And find out more about major projects, such as our future website and the capital projects we have planned for Berkeley.

This City of Berkeley Open House is intended to give our community a chance to learn more about the work we do, ask questions - and also to have a bit of fun. We'll have activities for all ages, including a bouncy house, face painting and toddler activities.

"Serving our community at a high level is at the core of our mission," said City Manager Dee Williams-Ridley, the event organizer. "I hope that people get a chance to meet some of the staff and officials who, together with our community, work hard to make Berkeley a more vibrant, healthy and equitable city for all."

We'll have staff from many departments, reflecting some of the breadth and diversity of Berkeley's services, from Parks, Public works and IT to the Rent Board and our Berkeley Marina. We'll have animals from our excellent shelter, Berkeley Animal Care Services, whose staff will also be on hand to talk about the programs they have.

Interested in making your home sustainable? Our Office of Energy and Sustainable Development will be on hand to guide you through potential improvements to your home and resources for your electric vehicle. Interested in working alongside our great team? You'll also be able to talk to Human Resources staff.

Please walk, bike or take transit. There are also a bevy of spaces in nearby garages, including our innovative Center Street Garage.

Come join us and learn more about the people, projects and programs that serve Berkeley.
