SunShares deadline extended

Berkeley, California (Monday, September 30, 2019) -

UPDATE: The Bay Area SunShares signup deadline has been extended!

Register at bayareasunshares.org by November 30 to receive a no-cost, no-obligation site evaluation and bids from two pre-screened installers at a 15% discount compared to market rates.

Learn how you can receive discounts on rooftop solar and electric cars by pooling your buying power with others.

The program, known as Bay Area SunShares, allows individuals to get more competitive pricing from solar companies and vehicle manufacturers.

Sign up by November 15 to get no-cost solar bids from two participating solar companies and/or a discount code for the 2019 all-electric Nissan LEAF.

At an October workshop, you can learn more by speaking directly to program solar providers or asking questions about the basics of solar and electric cars.

Berkeley Homeowner SunShares Workshop
Tuesday, October 15, 2019
6pm - 7:30 pm
South Berkeley Senior Center
2939 Ellis Street
RSVP to attend.
Co-hosted by the City of Berkeley and Ecology Center

SunShares offers solar pricing at about 15% below the average market rate. Homeowners who install solar on their rooftops may also be able to take advantage of a federal tax credit, in addition to SunShares discounts.  Rooftop solar reduces greenhouse gas emissions from your home, provides savings on your utility bill, and increase the value of your home. To participate in SunShares, register by November 15th

Once registered, homeowners will receive a no-cost, no-obligation site evaluation to determine if their home is suitable for solar. Homeowners can choose to work with either of the two solar installers (Skytech Solar and SunPower by Solar Technologies) selected by the program's community evaluation committee. Bay Area SunShares provides neutral information and technical assistance to all participants.

Drivers who register will receive a discount code via email that can be used for the 2019 all-electric Nissan LEAF at select participating dealerships in the East Bay and Penisula.

Renters interested in clean electricity will receive information about programs that allow Bay Area residents to purchase renewable energy from offsite wind and solar farms through East Bay Community Energy, our locally governed electricity provider serving Alameda County and almost all of its cities to provide cleaner, more local sources of energy

Berkeley PG&E customers were enrolled last November in East Bay Community Choice Energy's Bright Choice standard electricity service, which is less expensive than current PG&E rates. You can also "opt up" to even cleaner sources of electricity and help reduce Berkeley's carbon emissions.

Steps to Getting SunShares Discounts:

The City of Berkeley is joined by many other Bay Area municipalities and employers to partner with the San Francisco based non-profit Business Council on Climate Change (BC3) to offer the SunShares program to Bay Area residents.  The City of Berkeley encourages participation in SunShares as it aligns with the efforts of our Climate Action Plan and Resilience Strategy, supporting the City's Strategic Plan goal of being a global leader in addressing climate change, advancing environmental justice, and protecting the environment.

Last year, the City was recognized by the US Department of Energy with a SolSmart Gold Award for its work to promote rooftop solar, including our efforts to support the SunShares group purchase program.  During the month of October, the SolSmart program will highlight Berkeley's Gold designation, and for being one of several hundred communities nationwide to receive the prestigious designation for their commitment to renewable energy.

Bay Area SunShares is available to anyone who lives in the nine Bay Area counties and wants to install solar and/or purchase or lease an electric car.  For more information see: www.bayareasunshares.org
