MUSIC CONCERTS IN BERKELEY PARKS: BIG BAND, BLUES, HIP HOP AND MORE

Berkeley, California (Tuesday, July 16, 2019) - Join us on Saturday July 27, 2019 for an afternoon of Big Band music at Civic Center Park, the first in a series of community concerts in Berkeley parks.

This first concert will feature Morchestra, a 17-piece band lead by Tony Corman to lay down some swing, funk, and Brazilian grooves for your listening pleasure!  As with the rest of our summer concert series, they will perform on a big stage that will rove among several of our Berkeley parks.  

Sponsored by the City's Department of Parks, Recreation & Waterfront, these family friendly events are filled with kids' activities, food, music, and entertainment.  The events will showcase local artists performing big band orchestra, blues, hip hop and spoken word, culminating with our annual Harvest Festival on October 5.

Community Concerts will be performed at the following locations and times:Music in the Park 2019

  • Saturday, July 27, noon -3:00 pm: Big Band, Civic Center Park, (Fountain Area)  Enjoy the Saturday Farmer's Market while listening to The Morchestra, and Morgan Maudiere's 4pc. Jazz Band. 
  • Saturday, August 10, 12noon - 5:00pm: Saturday Blues Fest, Ohlone Park Baseball Field at Delaware & Sacramento Streets with featured performances by KP Project ft., Willie G, the Tamsen Donner Band, and Ladies Sing the Blues with Rhonda Benin, Tia Carroll, Terri Odabi, Marina Crouse & Bex Grimes.
  • Saturday, September 21, 1:00pm - 4:00pm: Hip Hop at Grove Park Ball Field Area, 1730 Oregon Street. This event is dedicated to the teens and will showcase up and coming artists with a hip hop dance battle, and rap performances by Nef the pharaoh, LOE gino & C5, spoken word by Flax from Youth Speaks, a graffiti art contest, and much more!
  • Saturday, October 5, 11:00am - 4:00pm: Harvest Festival at Cedar Rose Park, 1300 Rose Street (at Hopkins).The annual Harvest Festival features a Food Expo, Garden Expo, Community Resources, food contests and demos, and a Kids' Zone with face painting, bounce house, balloon art, pumpkin and scarecrow making and much more!  Stage performances by Get Lucky, Motor Dude Zydeco, and Levi Seacer & Smash City Band. 

Live performances begin at 12noon (note that the Hip Hop performance on Sept 21 begins at 1:00 pm), so come early and bring your blankets and low back chairs to enjoy music on the lawn at these beautiful parks.

Community Concerts are just one of an array of events throughout the year organized by the City's Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department, which offers dozens of camps, classes and other activities for people of all ages.
