FOURTH OF JULY AT THE BERKELEY WATERFRONT
Plan ahead to enjoy activities and music while avoiding traffic

Berkeley, California (Monday, July 01, 2019) - Come celebrate the Fourth of July at the Berkeley Waterfront, where the City co-sponsors a popular and free, daylong celebration that ends with fireworks over the Bay.

The admission-free event, from noon until 10pm, includes arts and crafts booths, live music, bounce houses and children's activities, as well as many different food vendors and trucks - though many come to picnic. Children can get their face painted, use the giant slide, or play at the beach. The City's popular Adventure Playground - a park that encourages kid-driven, hands-on play - will be open until 8pm.

Live entertainment will last from noon until 9:30pm. See the event website for details. There will be free dragon boat rowing, live pony rides, a petting zoo, carnival rides, an inflatable bounce area, mini-train rides, a giant wavy slide, and walk-on water bubble balls.

The day culminates at 9:35pm in a half-hour of fireworks over the water near the end of the Berkeley pier. Presented by the City of Berkeley, viewing is best along Seawall Drive south of the Berkeley Pier.

The event is popular, so plan ahead. Picnic areas at all Marina parks are first come first serve, there are only three designated barbecue sites. Alcohol, personal fireworks, and personal barbecues are prohibited. The Berkeley Municipal Fishing Pier is currently closed to the public.

Getting there: The best way to arrive is by walking or riding a bike over the Berkeley bicycle overpass or by bus. Until 6pm, you can take AC Transit #51B from the Downtown Berkeley BART station and into the Marina. To leave on AC Transit after the fireworks, walk out over the freeway overpass to University and 6th St.

If arriving by car, take note of road and off-ramp closures: the southbound I-80 off-ramps at University Avenue and Gilman Street, and the northbound I-80 off-ramp at University will be closed from 7pm (or earlier) to midnight. University Avenue west of the freeway will be closed to ALL vehicles from 7pm to 11pm to allow pedestrian and bicycle access to the Waterfront from University Avenue.

New this year, vehicle access to the event will be monitored at a pinch point on University Avenue, between Frontage Road and Marina Boulevard, between 8am and approximately 7pm. This will allow vehicles to arrive to the event later than years past and will also ease congestion. Please note, public parking before 8am on July 4th is not authorized.

There are over a thousand parking spots available. Standard size vehicles will be charged $20 for the day. Vehicles over 17 feet will be charged $50 for the day. Cash is the only method of payment accepted. The nearest ATM will be at the Seabreeze Market, open until 6pm. Cars parked at the Marina won't be able to leave by car from 7pm until 11pm.

Vehicles with boats on boat trailers will be allowed to access the Berkeley Marina Launch ramp and pay the required $16/day to launch/park.

Doubletree Hotel guests will be allowed to park in the Doubletree Lot, and pay the Doubletree’s designated rates (apx. $30/day).

For commercial rideshare operators/customers, such as Uber and Lyft, there will be a single pick up and drop off location at the Doubletree Hotel on Marina Boulevard from 8am to 6pm. After 6pm, rideshare drop-off and pick-up will not be available in the Marina. Rideshare pick-up and drop-off will move to the area near Spengers, 1919 Fourth St.

For more information, please call 510 548-5335 or visit the event website.
