NEW ONLINE PORTAL MAPS CITY DATA
See maps about properties, transportation, recreation, environment and services

Berkeley, California (Thursday, January 31, 2019) - You can now go online to more easily see a wide variety of data about Berkeley properties presented in clear, interactive maps.

With the new Community GIS Portal, anyone can look up detailed information about neighborhoods or specific addresses, such as zoning districts, parcel conditions or proximity to City amenities such as parks, senior centers, and bikeways.

The new platform, found at cityofberkeley.info/gisportal, allows users to explore a broad variety of data, grouped into five primary categories: property & planning, transportation, recreation, environment, and community services.

Each map layer offers an extensive list of sub-layers that can be turned on and off at will. Within the transportation layer, visitors can choose to display bike boulevards and bikeways, locations of public parking, and a map of residential parking permit areas. The community services layers showcases the locations of fire stations, schools, and Council District boundaries.

The portal also features a parcel conditions tool, which allows visitors to enter an address and see all the zoning and land use regulations that apply to that property in a simple table that can also be exported for use elsewhere.

Much of the information found on the portal previously required a phone call, email, or even a visit to City offices. Other documents were previously only visible as PDFs - which didn't allow the public to see how different data sets related to each other.

Common types of inquiries which the portal can answer include:

  • What zoning regulations apply to my property?
  • Is my property in an earthquake fault zone or liquefaction zone?
  • Is my property considered a landmark or structure of merit?

The Community GIS Portal is just one of a number of online tools related to planning and land use that the City provides. Other tools include:

This portal is also part of Berkeley's larger Strategic Plan efforts to improve customer service in all the ways we serve our residents and businesses, including making more services available online.
