CAR STOP LEADS TO GUN CHARGES

Berkeley, California (Tuesday, May 29, 2018) - Car Stop Leads to Gun Charges

On May 26, 2018 at 10:05pm, a Berkeley Police Patrol Officer made a traffic stop on a car for a violation of the California Vehicle Code.  When the officer contacted the driver (identified as Everett Walker 26, of Oakland) he could smell marijuana emanating from inside the passenger compartment.  A computer check revealed that the car's registration was expired in excess of six months.  The officer informed Walker that the car was going to be towed (pursuant to the vehicle code) and he asked if there was anything illegal in the car.  Walker told him that there was a gun under his seat.  During an inventory prior to the tow, the officer found a loaded pistol along with a bag of marijuana. Walker was arrested for carrying a loaded and concealed firearm and being a prohibited person in possession of firearm and ammunition.

The Berkeley Police Department takes great pride in the daily efforts of its officer who work to keep our community safe from gun violence.
