WASTE PICKUP SCHEDULE PUSHED BACK DURING HOLIDAYS
See tips on how to discard your tree

Berkeley, California (Thursday, December 21, 2017) - There will be no refuse, recycling or compost collection on Christmas or New Year's days.

Following both holidays, residential curbside collection will be one day behind schedule for the remainder of the week for both December 26-30 and January 2-6.

For example, if Monday is your regular collection day, your holiday collection will occur on Tuesday. Tuesday pickup will occur on Wednesday and so on.Friday pickups will happen on Saturday.

Please place your carts curbside by 7a.m.

Businesses with collection regularly scheduled on Monday will be collected on Tuesday. Starting Tuesday, businesses should continue to place their containers curbside on their regular collection day by 7a.m.

Please be advised that collection may occur later in the day than usual.  If your collection is more than one day behind schedule, please report a missed pickup by dialing 311 (or 510-981-7270).

Holiday trees should be cut into sections no longer than four (4) feet to fit into your compost container with the lid closed. Residences may leave trees less than four (4) feet in length at the curb on their normal collection day from December 26th through January 31st.

  • Please remove all lights, decorations, tinsel, plastic bags and plastic tree stands.
  • We will collect flocked trees, but flocked trees are not compostable so please avoid flocking if possible.

You may drop your holiday tree off at the City's Transfer Station at no charge during the month of January. The Transfer Station is located at 1201 2nd St. (off Gilman), and is open Monday - Saturday 8:00a.m.-4:30p.m.
