Meet the Staff That Helps You Build Our City

Berkeley, California (Monday, November 27, 2017) - Come learn how Berkeley gets built at an open house organized by the City of Berkeley's Planning Department.

At the Dec. 6 open house, you can learn about Citywide issues, such as long-range planning, or issues that may be more personal, such as your property's zoning or how to increase your home's energy efficiency.

Renters and landlords can learn about how to get inspections of their units.

Residents, builders, tenants or others simply interested in the City's planning and development process will be able to talk directly with the planners, inspectors and other staff who shepherd the process from an application to a final inspection.

Come tell us what you're thinking, make suggestions for improvements, and ask questions. Meet us at the Permit Service Center, which was remodeled to improve customer service through new technology and design.

Planning Department Open House
Berkeley Permit Service Center

A dedicated "Answer Station" staffed by knowledgeable Building Plan Reviewers and Land Use Planners will field any question about projects in Berkeley.  Guests who visit our information stations can also receive a free City of Berkeley flash drive for their participation. Light refreshments will be served.

The Planning and Development Department comprises:

  • Building + Safety Division, managing building permits, plan checks and Inspections, rental housing safety, and seismic safety programs.

  • Office of Energy and Sustainability, promoting clean energy, green building, the City's Climate Action Plan, and other sustainable practices
  • Toxics Management, inspecting and enforcing regulations around the use of potentially toxic substances.

This Open House event is part of Planning's ongoing efforts to connect our services to the needs of the Berkeley community. Please come learn about the work of your Planning Department, tell us what you need and help us improve.
