AS HEAT RISES, PREPARE TO COOL DOWN

Berkeley, California (Thursday, August 31, 2017) - Berkeley community members should take extra steps to protect themselves this weekend as temperatures are expected to reach the upper 90s.

The National Weather Service has declared an excessive heat warning from 11 a.m. Friday through 9 p.m. Monday.

  • Limit strenuous outdoor activities and drink water to stay hydrated
  • If you must work outside, take frequent breaks in the shade
  • Check up on people who are sick or elderly who may get overheated at home
  • Never leave kids or pets unattended in vehicles.

Additionally, City libraries and drop-in centers will be open during normal operating hours if you need a safe place to escape the heat. Our Senior Centers are also available for people age 55+.
