BUILDING MENTAL WELLNESS IN OUR COMMUNITY
Celebrate those community members making a difference on mental health

Berkeley, California (Wednesday, May 03, 2017) - Come to an event this Saturday to learn more about mental illness, a problem that affects all segments of society but that doesn't get treated properly due to negative stereotypes.

The gathering this Saturday aims to bring neighbors and community members together to promote wellness in our community and shatter the stigma that surrounds mental illness. At this event created by the City of Berkeley's Mental Health Division, we will celebrate individuals that have made an extraordinary difference in the lives of people with mental illness in the cities of Berkeley and Albany.

We will view three award-winning 60 second videos from local youth on maintaining mental wellness. Information will be available on local programs and services. Food and entertainment will be provided.

Wellness in a Sea of Change
Saturday, May 6, 2017; 1 - 4 pm
North Berkeley Senior Center
1901 Hearst Ave
Berkeley, CA 94703

Many people coping with mental illness report that the associated stigma and prejudices are nearly as debilitating as the disorder's symptoms themselves. Creating safe spaces for conversations about mental health can change lives. Attend the Wellness in a Sea of Change event to show your support and reduce the stigma that prevents people from accessing services and improving their lives.

Do you want to learn more about how to help people experiencing a mental health crisis? The City of Berkeley and other community agencies periodically host a mental health first aid training course. Learn the warning signs, strategies for how to help, and where to turn for assistance.  Visit Mental Health First Aid to learn more and find course near you.
