Free, Fun, Family-Friendly Event on Community Preparedness

Berkeley, California (Friday, February 17, 2017) - Kids growing up in earthquake country need a disaster-prepared household.  Pet owners need to know how to keep dogs, cats, and other animals safe in a disaster. On March 18, join us to improve the disaster preparation for your whole household - with activities suited for all levels of experience.

There will be pet-preparedness demonstrations, hands-on first aid instruction, a showcase of emergency vehicles, games, prizes, kids' activities, and more.  This year's event features trainings, entertainment, and information in Spanish as well as English. They'll include:

  • Transportation safety activities, such as a bike rodeo, helmet checks and free bike repairs sign-ups.
  • Kids can listen to the Berkeley Public Library's story time and the American Red Cross' emergency preparedness workshop for 3rd-5th graders.
  • Adults and kids alike can learn about earthquake science from UC Berkeley's SeismoLab, survival demonstrations from Trackers Earth, and an exhibit from Lawrence Hall of Science.

Celebrate our community's resilience and protect those you love by getting ready together,

"To survive and thrive in our next emergency," said Fire Chief Gil Dong, "We all need to be ready with the skills, plans, and supplies for all the members of our households - including children and animals"
