Berkeley, California (Thursday, December 29, 2016) - On 12-28-16, at approximately 10:55pm, the Berkeley Police Department received a call of a strong arm robbery at the North Berkeley BART Station.  Within minutes, a second robbery was reported on the 1500 block of Virginia Street.   The Victim reported that the suspects fled in silver sedan.  A few moments after the second call was received, an Officer responding to the report spotted the suspect vehicle driving southbound on Sacramento Street from Cedar Street.  The Officer followed the vehicle while waiting for additional units to assist him.

When the suspect vehicle ran a solid red light in the southbound lanes of traffic on Sacramento Street at University Avenue, the Officer activated his lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the suspect vehicle.  The suspect vehicle ignored the lights and sirens and turned westbound on Allston Way.  A block later it was involved in a minor collision at the entrance to Strawberry Creek Park.  When the car came to a stop, five suspects fled from the vehicle.

The pursuing Officer caught one female suspect on Allston Way at Bonar Street.  A perimeter around the block where the suspects were last seen running was established.  A second female suspect was caught at San Pablo Avenue and Allston Way trying to walk out of the area.

Victims of both robberies positively identified the suspect vehicle and their property was subsequently found inside the cars.

The suspect vehicle was later determined to have been an unreported stolen vehicle out of Oakland.  The Oakland Police Department was notified and informed us that they had a robbery in their City, and that  victim's property also found in the car.

The two female suspects (16 and 15 year old Oakland residents) were arrested and transported to Juvenile Hall where they were booked on robbery charges.  Three male suspects remain at large. The community is encouraged to come forward if they have any information regarding these cases.  Please contact the BPD Robbery Detail at (510)981-5742.  For crimes in progress, call 9-1-1 or (510) 981-5911 from your cell phone.
