Berkeley, California (Tuesday, December 13, 2016) - On 12/12/16 at approximately 10:25am, a Berkeley Police Motor Officer stopped a car with three occupants on board on the 1800 block of University Avenue for a vehicle code related offense.  A computer check revealed that the driver (identified as DeAndre Bess 20, of Oakland) was driving on a suspended license and had an outstanding warrant for domestic violence.  During the contact, the officer noted that the rear passenger (Timothy George Jr. 18, of Berkeley) was acting as though he was trying to conceal something under his shirt.  The Officer caught sight of the concealed firearm sticking out from under his shirt and challenged him.  He was subsequently removed from the car, searched and found in possession of a loaded handgun.

A computer check of the recovered firearms' serial number revealed that it had been reported as stolen in August of this year from an auto burglary in Vallejo.

The daughter of the car's registered owner (the front passenger) was released at the scene and the car was towed.  Both Bess and George were booked into the City of Berkeley Jail.  Bess was cited for driving on a suspended license and booked for the warrant while George was booked for carrying a loaded firearm in public, carrying a concealed firearm and possession of stolen property.

The Berkeley Police Department is proud of its officers' ongoing efforts to keep our community safe.
