Berkeley, California (Tuesday, November 15, 2016) -   At approximately 10:30pm, Berkeley Police Dispatch received a report of an attempted robbery or kidnapping which had just occurred near the intersection of Piedmont Avenue and Dwight Way.  The victim saw a car park just ahead of him.  He began to become suspicious when two men exited the car just as he passed it.  The victim was aware of the recent robbery spree which had occurred near the university campus and his suspicions continued to grow when he noticed that the two suspects were following him. The victim ran and the suspects followed with the suspect car paralleling them on the street.

The victim pulled out his phone and called the Berkeley Police Department.  The suspects were last seen getting back in the car and driving away. An officer responding to the call saw a similarly described vehicle leaving the area. He stopped the car which was occupied by three men (as described by the victim) at University Avenue and Walnut Street.

The suspects were positively identified by the victim in-field line-up.  A search of the car resulted in the discovery of a handgun. Arrested were an 18 year old suspect of Vallejo, an 18 year old suspect from Oakland, and a 19 year old suspect from San Pablo.  The three were booked into the City of Berkeley Jail for attempted Robbery, and weapons charges.

The Department encourages the following crime prevention measures for our Community members who are out walking after dark:
